BEGINNERS SEWING - NEXT STEP
4 WEEKS | 2.5hrs/week | $280
Thursdays 6pm-8.30pm
3, 10, 24 June, and 1 July.
Other day & times are available if there is at least 4 students in the group.
You’ve started your sewing journey (whether it was on your own or from our Beginners Sewing - Newbies classes - let's now finetune your skills. Using what you learnt , lets make another garment that gets you ready to do our intermediate course. Interact with others, and develop sewing skills in a friendly and professional environment, working in a light-filled modern spacious studio.

In this 4 week series designed for the beginners with foundation skills, we will cover:

Week 1:
Practice and make:

A pocket
-
A bagged out strip (turned out strap or belt)
-
Insert a zip (for skirt or dress)
-
A gathering piece
-
Machine tacking
-
Bring a picture of a design you want to make including the pattern and fabric if you have these already, or our teacher will guide you through the process of finding a pattern and the fabric based on the picture you bring to this first class. This garment should incorporate one or all of the above new techniques that you will be practicing. For the fabric, you should choose cotton, poly/cotton or similar for this first practice garment.

Weeks 2, 3 & 4:

Making your garment, including basting, pinning, overlocking, sewing, under pressing and fusing, plus the new skills learned in week 1. You’ll work at your own pace and learn skills every step of the way. Our experienced sewing teacher will be there to guide you all the way.

What you'll need to bring:

Your sewing machine, or hire 1 of 2 that we have in the studio for $5 per lesson.

Sewing kit with the tools you'll need each week to construct your garment.

Option for you to choose the pattern & item YOU wish to learn to sew. The difference with our class is that students do not all have to sew the same pattern - you can make the most of this class and come out an item you will use.

Currently in progress: 6pm-8.30pm every Thursday.

We require 4 students for this class to go ahead.
Alternative times can be created if we can get a minimum of 4 students. Please note this in your message.

ABOUT YOUR TEACHER
ELANA GELDENHUYS | HIGHLY EXPERIENCED SEWING PROFESSIONAL

With 37 years of professional experience in the sewing industry having worked as head designer for over 10 years on high fashion, menswear, evening wear and children’s wear.
For the last 27 years, Elana and her husband has owned a corporate uniform business, where Elana undertook designing, sourcing and manufacturing of uniforms for corporates including the West Australian Fire Brigades, St John of God Hospital Murdoch, Cities of Stirling, Swan and Canning, Skywest Airlines, SKG Radiology, Professionals Real Estate Group, Lotterywest, Perth Rad Clinics, Juvenile Custodial Services and many more. During this time Elana also had private clients for whom she custom designed and constructed the garments for people of all body types and worked with all the fabric types you can imagine. Elana especially loves dress making.

Elana would love to share her skills and knowledge of the clothing and fashion industry, and to pass on her extensive sewing skills and passion for clothes that are an expression of you.
TERMS & CONDITIONS
Please note that once booked, tickets are non-refundable. You may however transfer your ticket to another participant. Should a workshop be cancelled due to Covid restrictions your workshop will be rescheduled or you will be given a 12 month credit to rebook when we reopen.

When arriving, attending and leaving the workshop, it is your responsibility to follow all safety precautions.
