Join our classes to learn how to make clothes you will be proud to wear. Interact with others, and develop sewing skills in a friendly and professional environment, working in a light-filled modern spacious studio.

In this 6 week series designed for the absolute beginner, we will cover:

Week 1:

  • Learn how to thread and maintain your machine.

  • Basic uses for your machine, including needle position & back tacking.

  • Practice basic stitches, sewing in a straight line, curve and following guides.

  • Bring a picture of a design you want to make including the pattern and fabric if you have these already, or our teacher will guide you through the process of finding a pattern and the fabric based on the picture you bring to this first class. (eg simple dress/skirt/top/pull on pants in cotton/poly cotton or similar). We will review the suitability for your beginners class.

Week 2:

  • Cut your selected garment including how to read the pattern, take measurements, any basic adjustments you require, fusing and ready for the sewing to start.

Weeks 3 to 6:

  • Making your garment, including basting, pinning, overlocking, sewing, under pressing and fusing. You’ll work at your own pace and learn skills every step of the way.

Bonus:

  • You can come in to use Studio Subi for one free time sewing session of your choice.

What you'll need to bring:

  • Your sewing machine, or hire 1 of 2 that we have in the studio for $5 per lesson.

  • Starter's sewing kit - we'll provide you with the shopping list, or purchase the kit from our studio supplies.
