You can sew to construct items and are now ready to learn more techniques.

In this 6 week series designed for learning additional technical knowledge, we will cover:
​
Week 1:
-
Bring a picture of a design you want to make including the pattern and fabric. (eg this design can now include a zip/gathering/stretch/ribbing etc incorporating the disciplines listed below. We will review the suitability for your intermediate class.

Learn how to use other stitches and feet on your machine.

Practice sewing in a zip, stretch rib, gathering a frill.
Week 2:

Cut your selected garment including how to read the pattern, take measurements, any basic adjustments you require, fusing and ready for the sewing to start….
Weeks 3 to 6:

Making your garment - including basting, pinning, overlocking, sewing, under pressing, fusing and all the more complex tasks as listed. Work at your own pace.

What you'll need to bring:

Your sewing machine, or hire 1 of 2 that we have in the studio for $5 per lesson.

Your sewing kit including the basics.

Option for you to choose the pattern & item YOU wish to learn to sew. The difference with our class is that students do not all have to sew the same pattern - you can make the most of this class and come out with items you will use.

We are looking for students who are interested in a group class. Add your name to the list noting your preferred days and times and we'll be in contact when we have 4 students to commence.

ABOUT YOUR TEACHER
ELANA GELDENHUYS | HIGHLY EXPERIENCED SEWING PROFESSIONAL

With 37 years of professional experience in the sewing industry having worked as head designer for over 10 years on high fashion, menswear, evening wear and children’s wear.
For the last 27 years, Elana and her husband has owned a corporate uniform business, where Elana undertook designing, sourcing and manufacturing of uniforms for corporates including the West Australian Fire Brigades, St John of God Hospital Murdoch, Cities of Stirling, Swan and Canning, Skywest Airlines, SKG Radiology, Professionals Real Estate Group, Lotterywest, Perth Rad Clinics, Juvenile Custodial Services and many more. During this time Elana also had private clients for whom she custom designed and constructed the garments for people of all body types and worked with all the fabric types you can imagine. Elana especially loves dress making.

Elana would love to share her skills and knowledge of the clothing and fashion industry, and to pass on her extensive sewing skills and passion for clothes that are an expression of you.
TERMS & CONDITIONS
Please note that once booked, tickets are non-refundable. You may however transfer your ticket to another participant. Should a workshop be cancelled due to Covid restrictions your workshop will be rescheduled or you will be given a 12 month credit to rebook when we reopen.

When arriving, attending and leaving the workshop, it is your responsibility to follow all safety precautions. Upon booking, you agree that you are fully responsible for your property and physical safety during the workshop. Studio Subi and your workshop teacher hold no personal liability or responsibility for any damage, loss or theft to personal property, or any physical injuries that occur during the workshop.
