KNITTING FOR BEGINNERS

June-July 2026 School Holidays Program

Generally suits 10 year olds and over

Suitable for complete beginners. Multi-lesson program, ideally attend at least 3 lessons to have the opportunity to learn a good foundation of skills. Parents & guardians are welcome to book in with their child.

Small class size - limited to only 6 students per session.

Requires at least 5 students for these sessions to run.

Project 1: Crossbody pouch / bag

Through this first project, students will learn solid foundation skills. Students can size and personalise to create a one-of-a-kind creation.

Project 2: Student's choice

Only if the student has completed Project 1, they will progress to an additional project. Choose from a range of options including accessories and stuffed toy.

Project progression and completion will depend on student's commitment to knitting in between lessons.

You'll get:

  • Knitting kit of quality tools to keep:

    • Knitting needles

    • Wool needle

    • Stitch markers

    • Project bag

  • Printed instructions.

  • All materials provided.

  • Access to materials for decorating and personalising your creations, including polyfill, ribbons, embroidery thread, use of additional tools in class.

  • Specialist teacher to guide in every session.

  • Lesson 1: Monday  6 July
  • Lesson 2: Thursday 9 July
  • Lesson 3: Monday  13 July

  • Lesson 4: Thursday 16 July

 

Lesson Times

Each day has two sessions - attend just Morning or Afternoon session, or both.

  • Morning Session: 11am to 12.30pm

  • Break: 12.30pm-1pm

  • Afternoon Session: 1pm to 2.30pm

Bring own drink and (if attending both sessions, bring a snack for break time).

Fee

  • 4 weeks of only Morning or Afternoon session: $200

  • 4 weeks of 11am to 2.30pm: $400

ABOUT THE CLASSES

 

Knitting

Perfect for absolute beginners, you will learn basic knitting stitches and techniques as you work through your first project. 

We will begin with how to hold your knitting needles and yarn, then you will learn the following basics:

+ Terminology and abbreviations

+ Reading beginner knitting patterns

+ Casting on

+ Knit stitch

+ Purl stitch

+ Working in rows

+ Beginning new rows

+ Needle sizes and selecting suitable yarns

 

All supplies are provided, including your own knitting needles (two sets provided (1) straights, (2) circulars, yarn, wool needles to take home in a project bag. You will also receive printed instruction sheets which includes the learnings from the class, including the patterns. At home practice between classes is recommended to progress skills and each project.

CAROLINE IVSIC  |  STUDIO SUBI TEACHER

Born in France, Caroline grew up with French and Danish culture, and learned knitting through her Danish heritage. She started knitting in 2020 and has continued to explore the craft with curiosity.

 

Caroline's studies in plant biology brought her to Perth in 2023 to undergo her PhD. Caroline continues knitting as a passionate hobby and a way to relax and practice mindfulness in her downtime. Caroline joined Studio Subi to pass on her skills to others wanting to explore the world of knitting and particularly loves to create sweaters, cardigans and other garments.​​

TERMS & CONDITIONS

Please note that once booked, tickets are non-refundable. You may however transfer your ticket to another participant. Should a workshop be cancelled due to Covid restrictions your workshop will be rescheduled or you will be given a 12 month credit to rebook when we reopen.

When arriving, attending and leaving the workshop, it is your responsibility to follow all safety precautions. Upon booking, you agree that you are fully responsible for your property and physical safety during the workshop. Studio Subi and your workshop teacher hold no personal liability or responsibility for any damage, loss or theft to personal property, or any physical injuries that occur during the workshop.
